Mental turmoil (borderline personality disorder) drives Katie Price to buy three new hairless cats

Katie Price has a long history of buying and adopting companion animals and then losing them in accidents due to careless caregiving. In general we can say that Katie Price likes to purchase and adopt companion animals despite a bad track record of losing them in accidents such as dogs being killed on the road outside her home. She continues to purchase pets including recently three new hairless cats, purebred Sphynx cats. She does this against the advice of PETA who have consistently criticised her as has the general public and news media.

I discuss her borderline personality disorder below.

Mental health issues drives Katie Price to buy three new hairless cats
Images: Instagram.

PETA has criticised her before and they even launched a petition to try to ban her from owning animals. They offered a £5000 to stop buying companion animals which she refused to accept apparently.

And the founder of PETA, Ingrid Newkirk, told the Sun some time ago that they would have taken out an injunction to stop her if they could and she said that "this woman doesn't care about the lives she wastes or listen to vital advice and is still treating live animals like stuffed toys: as disposable".

Ingrid Newkirk said that Katie Price's record is so bad that she would expect these Sphynx cats not to live that long "given the hideous track record of animal deaths in price's custody. No one could call it 'care'."

A petition has been started on the change.org website.

Mental health issues evident in both excessive plastic surgery and purchase of pets. And drink-driving.

There is certainly something wrong with Katie Price! The question what is it? Katie Price has been pinging between pillar and post for ages. She has been declared bankrupt I believe several times and is currently going through bankrupt proceedings. She also has car driving issues. Katie Price has been convicted of drink-driving. In September 2021, she was involved in a car crash while driving under the influence of alcohol, cocaine, and while disqualified from driving. After pleading guilty to the charges, she was sentenced to a 16-week suspended jail term, 100 hours of community service, and was banned from driving for two years.

She has been open about her numerous plastic surgeries over the years. By some reports, Price has undergone over 20 procedures throughout her career. She's had multiple breast augmentations and reductions, facelifts, liposuction, Brazilian butt lifts, and various facial fillers and Botox treatments.

Prices had at least 12 breast surgeries both enlargements and reductions. She has had facelifts, eye and brow lifts, and lip fillers, among other procedures. And regarding body modifications she has had liposuction and Brazilian butt lifts. Other mental health issues involved here? Certainly I would argue.

Katie Price has apparently been open about experiencing body dysmorphic disorder which is a mental health condition where a person is overly preoccupied with perceived flaws in their appearance even if these floors are minor or non-existent. Price's multiple plastic surgeries are attempts to regain control over her life and self image, especially when she feels overwhelmed. This is a pattern observed in people who deal with self-esteem issues where changing their appearance offers a temporary boost in mood or confidence, although it often doesn't resolve the underlying mental health challenges.

There's no question that Katie Price has mental health issues leading to excessive plastic surgery which has arguably made her far less attractive. It is highly damaging plastic surgery and it reveals her mental health challenges.

I'm sympathetic to people with mental health problems. But less so when those mental health problems lead animal abuse. Katie Price's pattern of repeatedly purchasing new pets despite numerous accidents resulting in the deaths suggest possible underlying psychological issues in addition to what I mentioned above.

The constant purchasing of pets may relate to emotional needs, trauma and self soothing behaviours. There is an overlap here because excessive plastic surgery is self soothing. I would argue that Katie Price is in mental turmoil and has been for a very long time. Her bozarre behaviours try to soothe that turmoil.

It's been suggested that the mental turmoil behind the constant purchasing of pets might include emotional attachment and need for companionship. Her pets could provide a steady source of comfort and support. When faced with relational instability, it's common to turn to animals consistent, non-judgemental companionship.

Katie Price may also suffer from impulse control and possible ADHD. She has publicly acknowledged struggling with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder which can influence impulsivity and decision making. This appears to be evident in acquiring new pets all the time. And doing this without considering long-term responsibilities and potential risks involved.

In addition losing those pets might create unresolved trauma and grief and a pattern of re-enacting grief or loss. Some experts think repeated cycles of loss might reflect a subconscious tendency to replicate unresolved trauma especially if a person lacks strategies for coping or processing grief in healthy ways.

Lastly the neglect of her pets might be linked to emotional dysregulation which can be exacerbated by conditions like depression or BPD (borderline personality disorder) although she has not publicly disclosed a BPD diagnosis. This may contribute to neglectful patterns. In this case she may be unable to consistently prioritise the need of her pets over her own stress and emotional volatility. She is struggling to maintain routines and responsibilities which could impact keeping her pets safe and caring for them properly.

Katie Price's faced criticism for numerous incidents regarding a lack of proper care of her pets suggesting a lack of attention to animal welfare. My conclusion is that she is mentally ill and needs help but unfortunately the meantime her pets suffer or are exposed to risks both life-threatening and injuries.

Is Katie Price the UK's most inept pet owner? While bankrupt she has bought another for £8,000.

Katie Price is known for her addiction to plastic surgery often in Türkiye where it is considerably cheaper but more dangerous, her bankruptcy for owing £.75 million to the tax man, for living in 'Mucky Mansion' a rambling messy home in Essex and for losing a large number of pets through traffic accidents on the road. And yet she continues to adopt them.

Actually the better description is 'buy them' as she always buys purebreds and on this occasion she has bought a £8,000 Sphynx, the hairless cat breed which needs extra caregiving but which she is unqualified to discharge because she is such a hopeless pet caregiver than PETA offered her $5,000 to stop adopting pets and sign an agreement to that effect. She refused. And to pay £8k for a cat is madness. I think she was ripped off. They saw her coming.

Here are some details courtesy my best mate, ChatGPT:

Katie Price, a British media personality, has owned numerous pets over the years, and unfortunately, many of them have met tragic fates. Here is a summary of some of her most known pets and their causes of death:

Dogs

  1. Rolo (Puppy - French Bulldog)
  • Cause of Death: Suffocated under an armchair in 2020.
  • Details: Rolo was gifted to Katie's daughter, Princess, for her birthday. The dog died just a few weeks later after reportedly getting trapped under a chair, causing a public controversy over her care for pets.
  1. Queenie (Alsatian)
  • Cause of Death: Run over by a delivery driver in 2018.
  • Details: Queenie was tragically run over by a delivery van driver at Katie's home.
  1. Sparkle (Alsatian)
  • Cause of Death: Hit by a car in 2020.
  • Details: Sparkle was another one of her Alsatians and died after being struck by a vehicle.
  1. Bear (Chihuahua)
  • Cause of Death: Ran away and got hit by a car in 2023.
  • Details: Katie’s Chihuahua, Bear, reportedly ran away and was later found to have been hit by a car.
  1. Sharon (Pomeranian)
  • Cause of Death: Eaten by another dog in 2019.
  • Details: Sharon was attacked and killed by another one of Katie’s pets.

Horses

  1. Unnamed Horses
  • Cause of Death: Hit by a car.
  • Details: In 2017, two of Katie’s horses were killed in a car accident after escaping from her farm and running onto a nearby road.

Cats

  1. Hagrid (Cat)
  • Cause of Death: Hit by a car in 2018.
  • Details: Hagrid was struck by a car near her home, leading to his death.

Hedgehogs

  • Katie has also owned exotic pets like hedgehogs, though no specific reports of tragic deaths involving these creatures have been publicized.

Criticism and Pet Ownership Controversies

Katie Price has faced backlash and accusations of neglect following these incidents, with some animal rights groups and members of the public calling for her to be banned from owning more pets. Despite the string of accidents, Katie has continued to keep pets, and the incidents have been widely covered by the media, adding to the controversy surrounding her pet ownership.

This list may not include every pet Katie Price has owned, but it covers many of the more widely reported tragedies.

Finally, in 2022, the animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) offered Katie Price £5,000 to sign an agreement promising that she would stop adopting any more animals. This came after a series of tragic incidents involving her pets, many of which died under unfortunate circumstances. PETA voiced concerns over Katie Price’s ability to care for her pets, given the repeated accidents and deaths, and made the offer as part of their efforts to prevent further harm to animals in her care.

PETA's UK director, Elisa Allen, expressed the organization’s concerns publicly, and this offer attracted significant media attention. Katie Price did not accept the offer, and the situation fuelled ongoing controversy regarding her pet ownership.

Price is a menace to companion dogs and cats and exotic pets. She does need to be stopped. And to spend £8,000 on a cat companion when you are bankrupt should have been prevented. I think she will be criticised by a judge for that incredibly poor decision. I feel for the cat. I hope he/she survives.

Her previous Sphynx was euthanised at a relatively young age because of a neurological disorder. What was that about?!

Where does Katie Price currently live?

As of recent reports, Katie Price currently lives in her home in Horsham, West Sussex, England, which is often referred to as the "Mucky Mansion" due to its rundown state in the past. The house has gained media attention over the years because of its disrepair and various controversies.

In 2022, Katie began renovating the property as part of a reality TV series called "Katie Price’s Mucky Mansion", which aired on Channel 4. The show followed her efforts to restore and transform the mansion into a family home, showcasing various home improvements and personal touches she made throughout the process.

The mansion is situated in a rural area, with extensive grounds, and was originally worth millions, though it fell into disrepair before Katie's renovation efforts. Despite financial struggles and legal issues, the mansion remains her primary residence.

Cats have more rights in terms of freedoms than women in Afghanistan says Meryl Streep

NEWS AND OPINION: I cannot avoid expressing my strong opinion about the highly objectionable way the Taliban suppress and in effect incarcerate women and girls in Afghanistan. It is monstrous misogynism of the most heinous kind. The world should be up in arms about it. The world can get together; should get together to stop this.

Meryl Streep is an intelligent and gentle woman and in this video - which has gone viral - she gently chides Afghanistan's Taliban leaders about the way they suffocate women and girls in their country. They have stripped away all their rights to the point, according to Meryl Streep, where girls and women have less rights in terms of freedoms than domestic cats in Afghanistan. She was speaking at an event on ‘The Inclusion of Women in the Future of Afghanistan’.

There are 2 play buttons in the infographic in order to play the vide embedded in it.
And today a female cat has more freedoms than a woman. Meryl Streep. by Michael Broad

--------------

It would seem to me that women and girls in Afghanistan have lost almost all their rights. There is nothing left to strip away other than the right to feed themselves and breathe the air.

And remember, the Taliban said that they would respect women's rights when they took over the country after America and its Western allies vacated the place in acknowledgement that they had failed. But during the occupation by Western forces, women and girls in Afghanistan enjoyed much greater freedoms and rights. The Taliban and their oppressive attitudes towards women and misogynism removed them all.

Women enjoyed a normal life for a time. They were able to express their views and have a sense of equality and then suddenly it was all removed when the Taliban broke their promises. They are an insidiously disrespectful lot of misogynists in my honest opinion.

They cannot be trusted. It would appear that their attitudes about women are so backward that it is hard to know from which era they come or is it purely about a distortion of the Islamic faith (see link below). Perhaps during humankind's evolution when they were living in caves as Neanderthals, men treated women as the Taliban treat women today. But I suspect even the Neanderthals treated women far better than the Taliban treat Afghanistan's women today.

Good on Meryl Streep. She believes that more pressure needs to be applied to the Taliban to change their ways. I don't think the world can accept it. The world needs to intervene. Governments these days are frightened to intervene in these situations. They think it always leads to failure. They've been burnt in the past. Look at Iraq and Vietnam for instance. And Afghanistan is an example of Western failure in intervention. Although on different matters. America tried to change the culture in Afghanistan and did so while they were there.

But I don't think a history of failure should prevent people from trying to change gross misdeeds in one country in the future. We must maintain optimism and commitment to improving the world. We should not accept appalling behaviour in one country. The Taliban will argue that other countries should respect their culture. I get that. We should respect the culture of other countries.

But when that culture is so oppressive of human rights to women the rules change. You cannot respect a culture which is so diabolical that domestic cats have greater freedoms than women and girls.

One last point: I suspect that domestic cats live a pretty difficult life in Afghanistan. The country is relatively poor and animal welfare organisations run by Westerners disappeared from that country when the Taliban took over. I don't think that the Taliban have any great respect for animals. They probably abuse and use them in the same way that they abuse and use women.

I suspect that the concept of animal welfare animal rights do not enter the heads of Taliban leaders judging by the way they treat their women and girls. This despite the fact that the hadiths of the Quran demand that Muslims respect cats.

My gut feeling is that cats have almost no rights. And yet they have more rights than female humans.

Reasons for existence of misogyny

I asked AI (ChatGPT) about why this misogynism exists. These views come from the internet in general. I don't necessarily hold these views. For me it is more about male power. I asked AI about that and you can see the response lower down.

Misogynistic behaviour within any cultural or racial group is a complex issue influenced by various factors. It's essential to approach this topic with sensitivity and an understanding that misogyny can exist in different forms across all cultures, not limited to any particular race or ethnicity. Here are some key factors that can contribute to misogynistic behaviour:

1. Historical Context: Many societies have a long history of patriarchal structures that prioritize male authority and dominance. These historical power dynamics can shape attitudes toward gender roles and contribute to ongoing misogyny.

2. Cultural Norms and Values: Cultural beliefs and practices can play a significant role in shaping gender relations. Societies that emphasize traditional gender roles often foster environments where misogynistic attitudes are normalized.

3. Socialization and Education: From a young age, individuals are socialized into their cultural norms, which can include harmful stereotypes and attitudes toward women. Education systems that reinforce these stereotypes contribute to the perpetuation of misogyny.

4. Media Representation: The portrayal of women in media—whether in television, films, music, or literature—can reflect and reinforce misogynistic attitudes. Negative stereotypes and objectification of women can shape societal views on gender.

5. Economic Factors: Economic inequality and dependency can exacerbate misogynistic behaviour. In cultures where women have limited access to education and economic opportunities, traditional gender roles may be more pronounced.

6. Religious Beliefs: In some cultures, religious teachings may promote patriarchal views or limit the roles of women in society. Interpretations of religious texts can influence attitudes toward gender equality.

7. Fear of Change: As societies evolve and gender roles shift, some individuals may react defensively, leading to an increase in misogynistic behaviour as a way to reassert traditional power dynamics.

8. Peer Influence: Social groups and peer pressure can reinforce misogynistic attitudes, particularly among men. Group dynamics can lead to the normalization of derogatory language and behaviour toward women.

9. Psychological Factors: Individual psychological issues, such as insecurity or a need for control, can also manifest in misogynistic behaviour. These issues can be compounded by societal norms that condone or encourage such attitudes.

10. Intersectionality: It’s important to consider how race, class, sexuality, and other identities intersect to shape experiences and attitudes. Misogyny may be expressed differently across different communities and can be exacerbated by factors such as racism and economic inequality.

Addressing misogyny requires a multifaceted approach that includes education, challenging cultural norms, promoting gender equality, and fostering dialogue within communities. Engaging with these issues critically and empathetically can help combat misogyny and promote a more equitable society.

Is one reason to do with male power?

Yes, male power is indeed a significant factor contributing to misogynistic behaviour within many cultures. Here are several ways in which male power influences misogyny:

1. Patriarchy: Many societies are structured around patriarchal systems that prioritize male authority and dominance in various aspects of life, including family, politics, and the workplace. This power structure often leads to the marginalization of women and reinforces misogynistic attitudes.

2. Control and Dominance: Misogyny can manifest as an expression of control or dominance over women. When men feel their power or status is threatened, they may resort to misogynistic behaviours as a way to reassert their authority.

3. Socialization of Masculinity: Many cultures socialize men to adhere to traditional notions of masculinity, which often include traits like aggression, control, and emotional suppression. These traits can contribute to misogynistic behaviour, as men may feel pressured to demonstrate their power through dominance over women.

4. Fear of Vulnerability: The societal expectation for men to be strong and dominant can lead to a fear of vulnerability. In this context, women may be viewed as threats to male power, leading to hostile attitudes and behaviours aimed at maintaining control.

5. Economic Power: Economic inequalities often mean that men hold more financial power, which can lead to controlling behaviours in relationships and contribute to the perception of women as dependent or subordinate.

6. Exclusion from Power Structures: Women's historical exclusion from positions of power—whether in government, business, or religious institutions—perpetuates male dominance and reinforces the idea that men should control societal norms and values, including those related to gender.

7. Reinforcement of Gender Roles: Male power often reinforces rigid gender roles, where men are seen as leaders and providers while women are relegated to supportive or subordinate roles. This dynamic can foster resentment and hostility toward women who challenge these roles.

8. Cultural Narratives: Many cultures have narratives that glorify male power and aggression while devaluing female strength and independence. These narratives can normalize misogyny and legitimize male dominance.

Addressing misogyny rooted in male power involves challenging these societal structures, promoting gender equality, and redefining notions of masculinity to be more inclusive and respectful of women's rights and autonomy.

Islamic Faith

There is also a strong Islamic faith context here as women are very much in the shadow of men in Muslim countries. Also the Taliban exercise a very extreme version of the Islamic faith. But they use the faith to exercise control and power over women as they fear them in that if women are given equal rights it will undermine the male dominance over Afghan society. And of course the men use force to maintain this absolute control over women all of which is totally unacceptable by normal Western values.

Taylor Swift signs off "Childless Cat Lady" on Instagram post supporting Kamala Harris

Taylor Swift is the world's most musically talented and influential 'cat lady' even if she adopted the wrong cat - a Scottish Fold 😎😒. It seems that the almost the whole of the USA is following her on Instagram. The US population is 336 million at present and she has 284 million followers. She has the power to make a difference in this election.

Taylor Swift and Benjamin Button a Ragdoll cat. Photo Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift has said that she supports Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the presidential election. She signs off her post as a "Childless Cat Lady" in taking the Mickey out of J.D. Vance who as you may remember criticised childless cat ladies as people who were unhappy because they did not have a family. He both denigrated independent-minded women and the domestic cat at the same time. His comment attracted an avalanche of criticism which damaged Trump's presidential campaign. He tried unsuccessfully to backtrack.

And Taylor Swift said, as you can see in the post below, that she has to be transparent about who she wants to support because AI is a danger to the Internet (and of course it can be a great benefit - it depends how you use it). She says that an AI bot appears to have adopted her persona and made a post on her Instagram site saying that she endorsed Donald Trump; clearly very false and damaging information.

So in the vein of being transparent and open, she has clearly stated that she "will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election".

She is voting for Kamala Harris, like many other people, because she champions the right sort of causes. She is a balanced individual. She's smart and decent and I say that she has a good face by which I mean that she has integrity which you can see in her general demeanour and her facial expressions.

And I've also stated that she is an animal champion. She champions animal welfare. This is the behaviour of a tender-hearted person in a world needs that kind of person.

Taylor Swift agrees with me that if Donald Trump becomes president there will be a certain amount of chaos. I have argue that if we have Putin plus Trump plus Xi Jinping in power at the same time we going to have chaos. We need someone to moderate things and focus on cooperation and compromise in order to stabilise the world. And I believe that Kamala Harris is that person.

And Taylor Swift says that she is very heartened by Walz's support of LGBTQ+ rights and IVF and "a woman's right to her own body". That's a reference I believe to abortion. The right to an abortion has been curtailed as I remember in certain states thanks to Trump's time as president.

Taylor Swift has done her research she says and she asks her followers to do theirs. She wants her followers to vote for Kamala Harris.

Anthony Hopkins in Morocco holding a ginger tabby kitten with toxic lilies in the background?

Anthony Hopkins has an Instagram account with 5.2 million followers. The large number of followers is unsurprising. I was a little surprised to learn that he likes or loves cats and used to have a domestic cat companion until quite recently.

In an Instagram posting he has published a nice, quite serious photograph of him sporting a grizzly, grey beard holding a cute Moroccan ginger tabby cat or is this a calico cat because I see some black as well. No matter. But if the cat is a ginger tabby he is likely to be male and if the cat is a calico she is likely to be female.

I'm told that Anthony Hopkins is an advocate for Moroccan cats and I think that applies to street cats of which there are quite a lot in Morocco thanks to the weather and also thanks to the fact that there is probably not enough spaying and neutering of community cats in that country which is quite typical or with respect not untypical.

His post says: "From Ouarzazate, Morocco, with love. ❤️🐱 "

It's a good photograph. I like its seriousness and the inquisitiveness of the kitten.

BUT -- Do I see lilies in the background? If I do then I am afraid to say this is a huge mistake because lilies are pretty well lethal for domestic cats if and when they come into contact with even small amounts of pollen or indeed any part of the plant can cause serious injury or be fatal. I have posted a warning to Mr Hopkins in a comment.

Some lilies are safe but by and large all cat owners should never introduce lilies into their home.

Whoopi Goldberg ate cat food in bed in the middle of the night

The video explains everything. In short, it would seem that Whoopi Goldberg simply - by mistake - in the middle of the night grabbed hold of some cat treats that were next to her usual pretzels which she loves.

And because she was half asleep she didn't know that she was eating dry cat food treats. Initially she thought that the pretzels had gone a bit stale so she tried some more and then she suspected that her taste buds were a little bit wrong because it was two in the morning and she had barely woken up. All in all she ended up eating quite a few Temptations cat treats. The taste couldn't have been that bad because she grabbed at least two handfuls!

Separately, there have been reports of cat food manufacturers asking volunteers to taste their wet cat food. That's because some wet cat food is so refined it becomes attractive to people. It becomes very similar to human food because the ingredients are high quality. So there is an overlap here between cat food and human food. It's just about the quality! Cat food per se is not going to harm people on a one-off basis because it is designed to be eaten by carnivores. Humans are omnivores which means they both meet and nonmeat ingredients. Cat food is okay for people in essence but I wouldn't necessarily trust the additives.  And dry cat food is high in carbs.

I'm sure some people have eaten cat food and dog food because they were starving, were broke, and dog and cat food is normally cheaper than human food. And that brings me to another topic actually. Often cat food is more expensive than human food! It depends on what you're buying of course but high quality cat food on a weight-for-weight basis is sometimes more expensive than human food.

Which brings me to another point namely that if you are considering adopting a cat, make sure you can afford it! Do the maths. Work at the overall cost of cat food, cat litter, veterinary treatments, and in the case of purebred cats you'll probably need pet insurance. And pet insurance is notoriously expensive. Do some research on the inherited diseases of purebred cats before you adopt a purebred cat. It's important because you are going to need insurance for some of these fancy show cats. Believe me. And sometimes the insurance won't cover the veterinary treatment needed to fix problems like bilateral hip dysplasia in Maine Coon cats. That is just one example.

P.S. It is nice to know that she lives with at least one cat. She has my vote.

Ryan Reynolds jokes Taylor Swift sued him for using her cats in ‘Deadpool 2’

I have stolen the title from a website called NME. The story is a bit of fun. Ryan Reynolds and Taylor Swift are buddies I believe. So Ryan is taking the Mikey when he said that Taylor sued him for not asking her permission to put photos of her cats on his T-shirt.

In a recent Sirius XM interview (July 19), Reynolds discussed featuring Swift's cats, Meredith and Olivia, on a T-shirt in his 2018 film. The sequel, Deadpool & Wolverine, is set to hit theatres this week (July 26).
“Yes, I had a T-shirt made. Yes, of [Swift’s cats] Meredith and Olivia on Wade’s shirt,” Reynolds explained during the interview. “Yeah, you know, just little details, that’s all.”
He was asked if he'd got permission and his jokey response was:
"No, I was sued. I lost everything in that one. And getting sued by a friend is tough to swallow. Also, she has just a lot of very, very powerful lawyers. I found out later those are just the paralegals. The real lawyers didn’t even bother with it. But…I would never do such a thing." Meaning wear a T-shirt with Swift's cats on it."
Here is the video of the podcast (nice location) where the conversation took place.

Taylor's cats get everywhere. There's probably more gossip about her cats than about 90% of the celebrities in the US! 😉💕😃

Ryan Reynolds is a Canadian-American actor, producer, and businessman. He's renowned for his charismatic and often comedic roles, but he's also proven himself as a dramatic actor.

He gained widespread popularity for his portrayal of the irreverent superhero Deadpool in the eponymous film franchise. His witty and self-aware performance in the role solidified his status as a Hollywood A-lister.

Beyond Deadpool, Reynolds has starred in a variety of films, including romantic comedies like The Proposal, action flicks like Blade: Trinity, and even dramas like Buried. He's also known for his entrepreneurial ventures and sharp wit on social media.

Taylor Swift is a Grammy-winning American singer-songwriter known for her candid lyrics and evolving musical style. Rising to fame as a country artist, she's transitioned seamlessly into pop, showcasing her versatility and immense talent. Her dedicated fanbase, the "Swifties," is a testament to her global influence.

Halle Berry is a certified cat lady! Catwoman changed her.

The Internet is pleased to announce that Halle Berry is a "certified cat lady". And she became a certified cat lady because of the film Catwoman (2004) saying that the "experience changed me". She added that she "became a cat lover because of it" and she has been described in the past as a "self-proclaimed, lifelong dog person". I think we can describe her as an animal person actually which I love. The more celebrities who are animal people the better animal welfare will be.

And a beautiful aspect of Halle Barry's love of animals is that she rescues cats. She added that she had "just rescued four kitties I found in my yard three weeks ago".

-----------------
"I am a cat woman through and through, because of that experience and those relationships. That experience changed me."
She has an Instagram account and last month she shared a post on that social media platform showing us that she had adopted kittens from a family of stray cats that she discovered in her yard.

She introduced us to a couple of cats named Boots and Coco. She said that: "I found these two little fur babies in my yard along with their two siblings and their mom".

She ensured that the mother was spayed so that she could no longer procreate and create more homeless kittens and released her back into her yard where she is now an outdoor cat. She found forever homes for two of the babies and the remaining two "are our new lovies". She now has a "full house". Meaning of animals and I presume cats.

Halle Berry did exactly the right thing. She is a good woman beyond the world of cat rescue and animals in general. There is on doubt in my mind.

When she prepared for her role as Catwoman she was given a cat early on during the production as she didn't have one. His name was 'Playdough'. She said that she didn't have the responsibility of children and had plenty of time "to focus on this".

During the filming, apparently, she said that she was a "full-on cat, all the time. I'd crawl around my house, trying to jump on my counters, thinking 'If I were a cat, how what I get up there? I was in a 24/7.'"

Catwoman

Halle Berry played Patience Phillips, who becomes Catwoman, in the 2004 film "Catwoman." The movie itself wasn't a commercial success (I believe), but it did mark a milestone for superhero films as one of the first to be led by a woman of colour.

Here's a quick rundown:Movie Title: Catwoman
  • Year Released: 2004
  • Halle Berry's Character: Patience Phillips / Catwoman
  • Genre: Superhero (loosely based on DC Comics character)
  • Reception: Negative reviews, but notable for casting

While the film didn't win over critics, Halle Berry's performance was recognized with a few award nominations, including a BET Award for Best Actress.

The Owl and the Pussycat tie worn by King Charles III

Here we have King Charles wearing a tie with a cat on it. Nice. It is a tie in honour of 'The Owl and the Pussycat', a children’s poem by Edward Lear. He wore the tie at The Felix Project in February last year. The Felix Project is a United Kingdom charitable organization that saves surplus food from suppliers and redistributes it to charities. It has the dual aim to help reduce food surplus.

It is not known if the poem is a favourite of the King and Queen. But we do know that he is a dapper dresser wearing very expensive, classic clothes that might look a bit old fashioned to some but most regard him as extremely well dressed. He must take enormous care in selecting the clothes he wears.

His clothes are classic and he likes his ties to be a bit more adventurous. His ties are also a way of making a statement. The Owl and the Pussycat tie was very suitable for the occasion. Perhaps he wears these ties to open up a conversation with the people he meets at these events.

Final point for me: King Charles III is a landlord and he forbids tenants of his properties keeping cats. This indicates that he is insensitive to cats and owners of cats looking for a home. I don't think he particularly likes cats. He probably prefers dogs and he has shot birds and attended fox hunts. He is not an animal advocate. He wore this tie for business reasons. Not as a statement that he likes cats.

Each of Taylor Swift's cats worth £80 million each? True or false?

The Mirror newspaper tell us that Taylor Swift's cats which comprise one Ragdoll and two Scottish Fold cats are each worth £80 million in terms of their ability to earn revenue. The valuation comes from a website AllAboutCat.com. It's pure speculation actually.

The valuations must be based upon their individual social media accounts and how much revenue they earn. They will certainly be good earners because they are associated with Taylor Swift who is the top social media star on the planet as far as I know.

Each of Taylor Swift's cats worth £80 million each? True or false?
A lot of cats don't like cameras and in Meredith's case it won't help her earnings potential! Image: Instagram (believed).

Taylor Swift is approaching a personal valuation of US$1 billion. It's no surprise that her cats have a good value as well in terms of their ability to earn money but it's simply a spin off from her. Her Ragdoll cat Benjamin Button would just be another Ragdoll cat in another home with no value other than their purchase price but for the fact that Taylor Swift looks after him, lives with him and promotes him on her social media webpages.

The conclusion is that we don't know for sure how much Swift's three cats are worth individually or jointly.

Anybody valuing them would do so subjectively because it's too difficult to quantify objectively. In case you aren't aware, Taylor Swift's three cats are Olivia Benson, Meredith Grey and as mentioned Benjamin button.

My research indicates that it's unlikely that they generate a huge amount of income on their own to justify these valuations. Their value, as mentioned, mainly lies in the fact that they are cat companions to Taylor Swift.

Their earnings probably come from merchandise promotions using their image or appearances in media projects.

Their worth would be based on licensing agreement values, the amount they earn through endorsements and customer demand for products or media promotions featuring the cats.

Taylor Swift's enormous wealth is based on her talent as a musician and songwriter. Not on the presence or value of her cats. Although they probably polish up her image nicely. Did she adopt them for that purpose?

Separately, I don't think it's all a bed of roses for Taylor Swift and her cats. She tends to treat them as babies and I think that is incorrect - best to respect the cat. And she promotes the Scottish Fold which is a breed which should not be promoted because they are inherently unhealthy. In fact, it's a breed which should not exist if you are really concerned about animal welfare.

Social media celebrities Travis Nelson and his cat Sigrid were knocked off their bike in London

You may have heard of Travis Nelson and his beautiful, white Norwegian Forest Cat, Sigrid. Sigrid is an amazing cat because she is incredibly calm and she sits in a basket at the front of the bike while Travis peddles around London in the thick of traffic it seems to me.

It looks hazardous but until now Travis has avoided any incidents. He's become a celebrity as has Sigrid in her own right (she has hundreds of thousands of social media followers). Travis has written a book which is available on Amazon and good luck to him. Click this to buy the book.

This celebrity social media lifestyle started quite quietly during Covid lockdown when he decided to take his cat out and it gradually evolved into this very special relationship where Sigrid insists on going out on his bike as a passenger while he travels around London. He captures all his exploits on his bike with Sigrid on his smartphone which make very nice social media videos which you can see on TikTok.

The accident

Social media celebrities Travis Nelson and his cat Sigrid were knocked off their bike in London
Travis and Sigrid knocked of their bike by a moped. The moped rider apologised and admitted that it was his fault. Travis was magnanimous. Screenshot.

He also publishes his videos on Twitter and I guess YouTube. And here we have his video of him being knocked off his bike in central London by what appears to be a moped coming up rapidly on his right-hand side. The moped driver knocks into his handlebar which results in Travis losing control and falling off his bike with Sigrid.

Sigrid takes it all in her stride. Travis grabs her to make sure that she doesn't run away. After the accident, a lady comes up to him and asks if he is okay and he says that he is.

His knee is injured and he says that he will have difficulty riding his bike in the immediate future. The police were also there and they I think queried why he wasn't wearing a helmet.

Criticised on social media

And finally, on social media, he was harangued and criticised for taking his cat out in London in the unusual way that he does. He was threatened with reports to the RSPCA! This is a major overreaction I think by what appears to be slightly nasty people. Leave the guy alone. He is a good cat caregiver. He is providing his cat with a lot of mental stimulation and excitement. And he is making a few quid at the same time.

Jamie Lynn Spears blames Tesla cars for killing her cats!

NEWS AND COMMENT: This is hardly a story worth repeating but it is interesting in a way that Britney Spears's sister won't want to read about. Her name is Jamie Lynn Spears and she has accused Tesla EV cars in particular of killing her cats. Note that it is in the plural and therefore more than one cat of hers has been killed by a Tesla car.

Jamie Lynn Spears is a cat owner and she lets then go outside where more than one has been hit by EVs. Image credit: see base of page.

She is basically blaming Elon Musk who I am sure is totally disinterested in this.

Jamie Lynn, 32, claims that her beloved pets (note once again that it's in the plural) are being killed by Teslas because the cats can't hear the cars coming.

Tough but realistic comment: if you've lost one cat in a road traffic accident concerning a Tesla car, I don't think you should let your other cat outside or you should take some steps to protect your cat. It appears to me that she lives on a road which is not quiet and where there is a possibility that an outdoor cat can be hit by a car. You take measures to stop that happening which doesn't seem to be the case for Jamie Lynn.

I have read similar stories about cat owners complaining about road traffic killing their cats. The solution is in the hands of the owner. Don't blame cars or roads. Don't try and deflect the blame as it all comes back to the owner.

She wrote on social media:
"We have now lost — I don’t want to tell you how many cats — because they don’t hear the Tesla crank and unfortunate things happen and it’s really devastating and tragic for everyone involved. Elon Musk, let’s figure this out. You owe me a couple cats.”
I don't think the problem is with the quietness of EVs but with allowing cats to walk onto the road. Personally, I don't have a problem with the quietness of electric vehicles. They do in fact make a sound. And you have the sound of the tyres on the road which can be quite pronounced. There's no question that you can hear an electric vehicle coming.

Despite that, I'm told that as of 2020 regulations in America mean that electric vehicles have to emit sounds louder than a certain decibel level which is about the level of a washing machine. I don't know if that's true and if it is I think it's silly because one advantage of an EV is that it is quiet. Why take that away with some artificial sound box tucked underneath the dashboard? I just don't get that at all.

The bigger issue on electric vehicles is that the insurance on them is rising rapidly to unsustainable levels because, the insurance companies argue, that repair of electric vehicles is very expensive because the batteries are very expensive to replace. The cost of repairing electric vehicles is pushing up insurance policies across the board but particularly for EVs.

This will curtail the purchase of electric vehicles which, indirectly, will help Jamie Lynn because they'll be more diesels and petrol-engined cars on the road pretty soon if this electric vehicle crisis continues.

On the upside it is nice to know that Jamie Lynn likes cats. Shame she is an irresponsible cat owner.

Director of the film 'Argylle' sacked the professional cat actor and used his daughter's cat instead

You know that you can get professional animal actors. I'm talking about cats and dogs usually who are regarded as professional actors. Their owners can make, I guess, a decent amount of money by allowing film producers to use their animals as actors in a film.

Director of the film 'Argylle' sacked the professional cat actor and used his daughter's cat instead
I believe that this is Mr Vaughn with his daughter's Scottish Fold, the non-professional feline actor who became a film star! Image: Fandom Wire.

Clearly, animal actors have to be well behaved, well trained and able to take directions of some sort! You would expect, animal actors to be particularly well-rounded individuals, calm and able to absorb without fuss all the commotion that occurs on a film set with strange people in strange places.

There is an up-and-coming new film due to be aired in 2024 called Argylle and it is directed by Matthew Vaughn. In The Times today he is reported to have told Empire that he had originally hired a professional feline actor.

He said that, "It was very expensive but it wasn't very cute and it was useless."

And so, Mr Vaughan fired the professional cat actor which may have been against union rukes but then I don't think cats are members of any film unions. Vaughn added that, "They don’t have any rights, thank God." Now that's another long discussion because cats do have rights under the law but not of the kind that Vaughn is referring to.

He decided to go up to his daughter's bedroom and he asked whether he could borrow her cat, Chip, for three months.

Chip turned out to be a really good actor. He is the star of the film! Mr Vaughn says, "He was always looking at the right place. I don't want to be rude about some actors I've worked with, but Chip was easier."

So, little Chip, the new feline acting star is now going to be featured in a book and merchandise is going to follow featuring the little fella.

This is partly because he is a cute-looking Scottish Fold. These are the new hot cats because Taylor Swift adopted one. What she touches turns to gold.

It is said that when non-child actors get a break in films because they are the offspring of celebrities and become stars they are described as "Nepo babies".

So, the question is according to Patrick Kidd, the Times journalist, whether "this is the dawn of the nepo kitty".

Flat-faced Persians bought for social media 'likes' are being abandoned

The title comes from The Telegraph which I can't read because you have to subscribe nowadays to this online newspaper. This, by the way, is a growing trend. The online newspapers simply aren't making enough money through advertising but I don't think people will subscribe to them in sufficient numbers.

Anyway, I digress because I know what The Telegraph is talking about even though I cannot read their article. It's a well-known phenomenon actually.

RSPCA campaign against the flat-faced Persian in which they tell the truth about the breed. Image: RSPCA.

The RSPCA can provide some information. They say that there has been a rise in Persian cats being abandoned to them between 2018 and 2022.

On Facebook, the RSPCA state that: "Worryingly, there's been a 92% increase in Persian cats coming into our care in the last four years as the popularity of this flat-faced breed continues to rise. These cats are often seen as being cute because of their features, but in reality, they can suffer from: breathing difficulties, eye problems, difficulty sleeping."

They actually suffer from more problems than that such as PKD - polycystic kidney disease (35% of the Persian cats apparently suffer from this disease). And they have tear duct overflow which means the tear ducts are distorted and so tears do not drain away from the eyes but the liquid spills over down the front of the face where they face become stained.

It's a well-known problem that you have to clean the face of a Persian cat regularly. A number of celebrities in the UK have adopted Persian cats. Also, in India you will find that high-profile female celebrities like the Persian cat. In fact, in India, the Persian cat is perhaps the most popular cat breed together with the Siamese. These are very long-standing cat breeds and India has a young, emerging cat fancy and therefore they prefer the old breeds.

Punch-face Persian.

Indians living in India call the flat-based Persian a "punch-face Persian" in recognition of the fact that it looks as though somebody has punched in the face. It is an objectionable label sadly.

For example, in the UK, Kate Beckinsale, is obsessed with her Persian cats, Clive and Willow. They accompany her on her Instagram pages. Taylor Swift has not adopted a Persian cat.

In September 2012, Kim Kardashian adopted a Persian kitten. Although Taylor Swift has not adopted a Persian cat, preferring to select the Ragdoll and Scottish fold, she has promoted the concept of buying exotic domestic cat breeds which I think has encouraged others to do likewise to help create successful social media accounts such as on TikTok and Instagram.

Taylor Swift has, I believe, the highest number of followers on social media of anybody on the planet.

But when a person adopts a flat faced Persian in order to post pictures of them on social media, they will find out about the responsibility that they've taken on in looking after Persian cat which is at a slightly added level to normal.

They will also find out that it is very hard to acquire lots of followers on social media and have a successful social media webpage. Nearly all of them fail.

So, when they have failed in their attempt to become social media stars, the Persian that they acquired no longer serves their purpose so they abandon the cat to the RSPCA. That, I believe, is the story. It is a great shame because the Persian cat is being used as a means to try and generate social media fame which a lot of people crave. It doesn't work actually unless you are Taylor Swift but then people follow her because of her love because of cats.

Separately, you will find that other well-known cat breeds are also used to try and generate fame for their owner, vicariously. The Maine Coon is a typical example. This is currently a very popular cat breed and because of their size they look very impressive in photographs.

You will see many TikTok and Instagram accounts in which the account holder shows off her Maine Coon cat and how they develop from kittens to giants. The same objective is being followed for the owner of these cats: to achieve social media fame through their cat.
