Cat takes mighty leap to successfully hit a Ring doorbell to be let inside

Determined and athletic cat leaps from parked car at the Ring doorbell to be let in. Where is the cat flap?!

The picture above comes from the video below which won't last long so enjoy it while you can! I can't find the original Ring.com video and I think this one is a rip-off. But it is okay.

It shows how domestic cats are amazingly resourceful in getting their way particularly to get inside their home. They learn how to attract attention.

These must be homes where there is no cat flap. The cats get left outside. I wonder about that and ask why owners don't install cat flaps if they intend to let their cats go outside unsupervised.

Here is another video of a resourceful cat employing the same technique to be let in:

There are many examples on the internet. All are a testament to the intelligence and learning ability of the domestic cat plus there athleticism and resourcefulness. Impressive guys aren't they?

Novel and amusing way to categorise domestic cats by their body shape

Category 1: Fine boi
Category 1: Fine boi. Screenshot from video below.

I love this amusing video. The vet clinic who made it are, I believe, trying to get a message across to cat owners but doing it in a funny way. It's probably the best way to tell cat owners to 'please watch your cat's weight'. You must have heard about the 'cat obesity epidemic'. Yep, it exists. When humans become obese there is a tendency for their cats to follow. It's about normalisation. Although my neighbours are obese and their cats aren't!

So many health problems start with obesity both in humans and our feline friends. We really have to be self-disciplined. It can be tough but the rewards are high. My philosophy is that we owe it to ourselves to be as happy as possible. That's our target while respecting others and society.

It is near impossible to be happy when unhealthy. Poor health causes distress at least and pain at worst. The same applies to cats. Obesity causes ill-health. QED. Keep cats healthy!

Link to the Alicia Pet Care Center TikTok page.

I do not want to be a spoiler; spoiling the fun of this video but a serious point has been made in the video. An estimated 40% of all domestic cats are obese. I suspect that that figure relates to the West i.e. developed countries.

Obesity contributes to arthritis, a fourfold increase in type II diabetes among domestic cats, poor hair coat, and hepatic lipidosis; a potentially life-threatening health problem.

A frequent error is feeding dog food to cats. Never do this! Cats require twice as much protein and B vitamins as do dogs. And they can't convert certain dietary precursors into necessary amino acids and water-soluble vitamins. A cat given dog food over a long period can develop taurine deficiency. They can also develop vitamin A deficiency, niacin deficiency, retinal degeneration and other serious or fatal issues.

Cat stole a grenade from a Ukrainian soldier and doesn’t want to return it

A bit of fun in all the hell of the Ukraine war. It looks a bit dangerous though. Don't grenades have pins which are released to make them live? They way the cat is messing around with the grenade it makes you wonder if that pin is about to be accidentally released. The guy is laughing. I can see the funny side and the seriousness.

Ann estimated 400,000 animals have been killed in the war I am told. Many cats have been made homeless and ownerless. They become feral and hopefully someone looks after them but that would seem unlikely as people have enough on their plate to survive themselves.

Kitty thinks he is a shampoo bottle

This is a classic example of how kittens instantly fall asleep where they stand or sit. It is just lights out time. You'll see a few videos of kittens collapsing into deep slumber but this is a new angle on the phenomenon. Nice job.

A nice touch for me is that the video is simply observational. It has not been set up and there is no animal abuse which is so commonplace nowadays in 'funny cat videos'. You know, a study concluded that about 35% of cats in so called 'funny cat videos' were stressed during its making.

The ultimate video of a cat getting into a vase. Manic and awesome.

I have seen many domestic cats obsessed with getting into glass jars, vases and boxes including very small boxes. But this when I think takes the biscuit. It's a supreme effort. Although I have seen a Bengal cat get into a billiard table pocket! Yep, equally extreme behaviour. Cats love tight spaces and they love investigating which is why they need 9 lives 😃.

Here is that Bengal cat doing his extreme thing:

And here is a link to the page: Bengal cat gets into a billiards' table pocket.

The largish cat has to make two stabs at it. Determined. Admirable. Some cats love the security of tight spaces and it doesn't matter how they achieve that sensation: box, vase, jar you name it.

"Cats try to RUIN Christmas trees" discuss!

It is that time of year when websites sometimes discuss the interaction between cats and Christmas trees 😎. And this is where it goes wrong 😢. There's one website from New Zealand called Stuff which has a title as follows: "Watch: 12 times cats tried to ruin Christmas trees". This is a big website with an influence, and I don't like the title (Kiwis don't like cats!). I am being too serious, but this is a title which imports speciesism into the discussion.

Domestic cat pulls over Christmas tree
Domestic cat pulls over Christmas tree. See video below.

Domestic cats don't try and ruin Christmas trees. They try and climb them because that is what domestic cats want to do. They need to entertain themselves in the sterile human environment in which they are placed and forced to live. Strong words.

@yoilseari please send tips so this won’t happen again #cat #catsoftiktok #christmas #cats #fyp #foryoupage ♬ original sound - Ilse ◡̈

So why criticise them for trying to ruin Christmas trees? They are simply climbing them and enjoying the experience. If that results in the Christmas tree falling over and smashing to bits so be it.

It is not a conscious effort by a domestic cat to ruin a Christmas tree. I am spelling out the obvious and I'm sure that I am being incredibly tiresome and boring in doing so.

However, the title that I refer to on the Internet is a misdescription and a form of speciesism.

No doubt there are many videos of domestic cats pulling over Christmas trees. There are an equal number of methods to protect Christmas tree such as putting kitchen foil all around the tree. This works pretty effectively because it looks sort of Christmassy while at the same time protecting the tree because domestic cats hate to walk on tin foil. They don't understand it and it makes a funny noise which puts them off very effectively.

My theory is that the sound of tinfoil being walked on sounds a bit like a viper or a rattlesnake. Cats don't like snakes although it must be said that they are very effective at killing snakes particularly the sand cat. This is made possible by the fact that the domestic cat's reflexes are sharper than those of the snake!

Back to Christmas trees. The video on this page I think is priceless. That is a bit of a pun because there is a financial price to pay when a cat knocks over a beautiful Christmas tree as we see in the video.

Volodymyr Zelensky's Warrior Cats hate Poo Tin's 2-legs

I agree that the title is a bit bizarre. The picture might help. And if you click on the link below, you'll see the connection between Poo Tin and Putin. And finally, there a strong fan club of the Warrior Cats books remain online, and they love to participate in role play games (Warrior Cats RPG).

RELATED: Please be responsible and pop your dog’s poop in the POO TIN.

I have a suspicion that this is the product of photo-editing but who cares.

Ready to fight! ✔️😊😎. My God I am very keen to see Putin's forces kicked out of Ukraine and for things to return to 'normal'. But they won't. I predict a form of nuclear war and perhaps a world war.

Cat knocks over jug of water and drenches sleeping owner

"Cat Accidentally Gives Owner a Shower in Bed" is the video title. Being somewhat cynical in my old age, the only question that I have regarding this video is whether it is genuine. I suspect that it is not. I think it was staged. Let's analyse it. The woman knows that her cat likes to walk on that shelf at night because it has happened in the past.

She has a security camera in her bedroom or she put it up for the purpose of videoing this episode. She puts a jug of water on that shelf knowing that there is a good chance that her cat will knock it over. The outcome is not certain but it is likely nonetheless. She makes the video. She sells it to the Daily Mail. How much do they pay? I don't know. Probably up to a 500-1000 quid for something that is good and this is quite a good video in this genre of videos i.e. funny cat videos which are always quite popular.

I think it is quite noticeable that her reaction when the water falls on her head is quite slow and she gives the impression to me that she is unsurprised. This helps support my theory about this being a staged video. It should also be said that there are a lot of staged videos on YouTube which are presented as genuine. The purpose is to earn money through advertising.

Freddie Mercury would have loved Bohemian Catsody!

The world knows that Freddie Mercury loved cats. One of his songs was inspired by perhaps his favourite cat Delilah. I have some pages on Freddie Mercury and his cats which you can read by clicking on the links below if you wish. I'm not sure that this version is, truthfully, that great but I don't think that's the point. It's a very good attempt and a lot of effort must have gone into it.

ASSOCIATED PAGES:

  2. Freddie Mercury: his ten cats and Bohemian Rhapsody the film
  3. Last known photo of Freddie Mercury was with his cat Oscar

As you guessed it is a parody on Queen's iconic 1975 smash Bohemian Rhapsody. The lyrics go like this:
"Mama, just killed a mouse
Ate it all except the head
That's your present on your bed
Mama, a sign of my love
Why did you scream and throw it all away?"

CAT ALLERGY #shorts (funny video)

A cool little video about cat allergies. It's funny; the mix up is very easy to make. When we speak of a 'cat allergy' it can mean two things: a person who is allergic to cats or a cat who is allergic to certain things like food or environmental allergens.

So, if you say something like: I am looking for a treatment for a cat allergy it's not really clear what you mean. You have to rephrase it like this:

'I am looking for a treatment for my cat who suffers from allergies to unknown allergens'.

Or:

'I am looking for a treatment for my allergy to cats'.

It's boring, I know. But the jokey video is based on this weakness in the English language which is ambiguous on the issue of cat allergies!

Harmless objects might NOT seem harmless to a domestic cat

There is a popular video on YouTube and on the website Rumble with the title "Cat remarkably startled by harmless object."

But if you know a little bit about domestic cats, you have to come to the conclusion that the title is plain wrong. The person who wrote the title doesn't know domestic cat behaviour. This is one of those classic cucumber-and-cat videos. It's quite a good example although a bit dingy because the lighting is so bad.

Harmless objects might NOT seem harmless to a domestic cat
Harmless objects might NOT seem harmless to a domestic cat. Screenshot.

And once again the person who made the video had to scare their cat to make it which I don't like. But putting that moral issue to one side for a second, a cucumber placed behind a cat which the cat then turns and sees does not seem harmless to that cat. The cat does not know what the hell it is! It is a new, unknown object and it might be a threat. In order to play safe they jump out of the way. It's common sense. Note: the cucumber looks as if it could be an animal to a cat. It is a plausible analysis.

Note: This is a video from another website. Sometimes they are deleted at source which stops them working on this site. If that has happened, I apologise but I have no control over it.

People do this all the time. Many people are fearful of so many things and they avoid them. The Covid pandemic is a good example. People have been avoiding each other for 16 months. Even when they've been double vaccinated, they still go around wearing a mask in the open air or in their car. Animals and humans are alike in this respect; in general fearful of the unknown.

We should not, therefore, be surprised when a cat behaves like this. But people are surprised and amused at the same time period and we should not be amused either. This is neither surprising nor amusing behaviour. It is normal behaviour and an abuse of the domestic cat. But I'm becoming far too serious no doubt for the vast majority of people.

CLICK FOR SOME PAGES ON FUNNY CAT VIDEOS

But people should be aware that all these funny cat videos are at a price. And the price is the emotional welfare of the cats in the videos. A study found that a significant percentage of these cats are stressed and anxious because the person who made the video put their cats through a stressful situation in order to create something funny. And it is funny (strange) why people find frightened cats and cats put into difficult situations as amusing.

I would like to see a slightly higher standard of animal welfare and an attitude which reflects that if that is at all possible, please.

Cat owners should stop putting cucumbers behind their cats which scares them

Internet surfers should know by now that there are many videos on the Internet of cats been terrified and jumping out of their skin when they turn around and find a cucumber on the floor beside them. Their owners do this to make an interesting video. The videos have gone viral it is said and a lot of people find these videos amusing.

I've not yet seen it said that there is a morality issue here. It is known that a healthy percentage of cats in funny cat videos are stressed (34%) because of the production of the video. In other words, people are stressing their cats in order to make a funny video.

Screenshot from one video.

The same applies to these viral cucumber cat videos. People are relying on their cat to become very frightened in order to make an interesting video. Is that morally, correct? I do not want to sound high-handed and preaching but clearly it is immoral. Cat owners have a responsibility to create an environment in which their cat companion is content. Everything that cat guardians do should be designed to meet that objective. Putting a cucumber behind a cat to frighten them achieves the exact opposite.

There are many examples of Internet videos which rely on the same principle, namely to frighten or abuse the cat in some way in order to create an interesting video. It simply has to stop. Of course, it won't and I am pissing in the wind. I fully realise that. The competition to create interesting cat videos is immense because there is quite a lot of money to be made through Google advertising on YouTube videos. And some of the most successful videos feature domestic cats as we all know.

We should also know that the reason why domestic cats jump out of their skin when they see a cucumber is not because they are frightened of cucumbers per se but because the owner put the cucumber behind them and therefore when they turn around, they see a strange object which wasn't there previously.

Instinctively they defend themselves by jumping out of the way because they aren't sure whether this strange object is hostile and perhaps a predator. Cucumbers look somewhat like snakes which are dangerous to cats unless you are a sand cat. Sand cats attack and eat snakes even venomous ones!

Please, don't jump on the bandwagon and try and frighten your cat to make a funny cat video. It is not a good idea. Don't rely on your cat's anxiety and fear in order to benefit financially. It is inherently immoral and bad cat caretaking.

Domestic cat likes to sit on his haunches. Why?

Why is this young tabby cat sitting on his haunches as we see humans do in Asia. They do it because it is a comfortable way to be in a restful position but you have to be flexible and therefore slender. It is impossible if you are overweight.

Domestic cat likes to sit on his haunches. Why?
Domestic cat likes to sit on his haunches. Why? Video screenshot.

It is the first time I have seen a cat sit on his haunches like this and the cat's owner said that it makes her uncomfortable. She does no explain why. It's probably because she's worried that there is a health reason behind it.  But he looks relaxed, comfortable and healthy.

Comfortable

On the basis that I am correct in that assessment there is only one reason why he is squatting like this: it is comfortable for him (but see possible health issue below). This is very unusual but cats are individuals and this image on Twitter proves the point. Domestic cats vary tremendously in their likes and dislikes, their vocalisations and general behavior. There is a common thread of course because they are all felines but there is a lot of variation.

Men sitting on their haunches in Asia
Men sitting on their haunches in Asia. They do it a lot in Asia but hardly ever in the West. Photo in the public domain.

Sore bum

There is one particular reason that I can think of which is health related. His bottom is touching a cool tiled floor. It looks like the kitchen or bathroom.

It is conceivable that he likes the cooling sensation because his bum is in contact with the floor. If that is true it may be because he has discomfort in the area of his anus. This may be because his anal glands are inflammed because they are infected or his anus may be inflammed. As the latter would be noticeable it is more likely to be the former. It would be impossible to notice which is why the owner is uncomfortable. She is in the dark as to why her cat is behaving strangely as she sees it.

The video below may stop working over time because it is embedded here and the original which is on Twitter may be deleted. It that has happend I apologise.

All cat behavior is normal and correct. It is never deviant. There is always a good and logical reason behind it because cat behavior is  largely instinctively. They react to stimuli and conditions.

The sore bum theory is my currect favorite. As this is a Twitter feed I'll leave a comment and a link to this article. When cats have sore or messy bums they sometimes scoot. The scooting behaviour is a bit like this only the moves with their bum resting on the carpet or grass.

Picture and video of cute white kitten washing her paws and face

Well, this is either a totally boring, fabricated video or it is interesting because it prompts the question as to why this cute white kitten is washing her paws and face so keenly? Of course, I am a bit of a conspiracy theorist these days being an old man and I tend to see the negative in a lot of things which goes with the territory of being elderly.

The point that I am getting at is I think the video maker put something on this kitten's paws in order to make them lick the paws this keenly. I could be wrong. But it's the vigour with which this cute kitten grooms her paws which leads me to believe that she is licking something off them which was put on them. I've tortured that description but you get the point.

And the kitten has been placed in a tunnel of some sort. It looks like a ventilation shaft which I guess is also meant to add a bit of interest in it. The key to the success of a TikTok video is to make it look different so you find any means possible to achieve that goal. In this instance I'd say that they've achieved the goal by putting something tasty on the kitten's paws and put the kitten in a ventilation shaft!! Job done. Funny cat video.

Picture and video of TikTok chonky tabby cat

Do you think this is fun? I find the music a bit harsh. Actually I find the music very harsh and the whole video a bit gross really but I'm out of touch with the rest of the world, it seems to me. I'm sure the video is pretty popular. I don't know whether to be serious or jokey. This is meant to be a fun video. So I'm not meant to be serious about it, but look at the size of the cat.

This is an obese cat and the owner has allowed this cat to become obese. We have to criticise the owner therefore. This kind of obesity is going to lead to health problems. You can't really in all good conscience make a funny cat video out of a cat's health problems. Can you? Is this part of the modern day trend of making very short funny cat videos based on cat abuse. Am I being too critical? Is that a misconception?

Perhaps I just don't see the world like other people see it. I certainly don't see the world in the same way that a lot of young people in Asia see it. I think this video is from Asia where arguably there is a different attitude towards animals and the human-to-cat relationship. I would love people to comment tell me what they think about it.
