Mariska Magdolna Hargitay names her traditional Siamese cat 'Karma' after Taylor Swift song

Mariska Magdolna Hargitay is an American actress and producer. The daughter of bodybuilder and actor Mickey Hargitay and actress Jayne Mansfield, her accolades include two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and two People's Choice Awards. That's from Wikipedia. 😉🙄

I had to look her up as I had not heard of her before I read the story of her naming her traditional Siamese cat 'Karma' after Taylor Swift's song of the same name on her album 'Midnights'.

The lyrics from the Midnights track “Karma” go: "Sweet like honey, karma is a cat purring in my lap ’cause it loves me."

Swift picked up on the news a little 2 days later. 😊 She said commented: "Are you serious?!!!! Nothing has ever come more full circle. LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!” 💕💕Lots of love from Taylor.

Traditional Siamese named Karma after on of Taylor Swift's songs. The picture is from the Instagram account of Mariska Magdolna Hargitay. Thanks.

I have particularly specified that Karma is a traditional looking Siamese cat as opposed to the rat-face modern creation which has been overbred to become far too skinny in my opinion. Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Some people call the traditional Siamese the 'old-style Siamese' but there is some confusion about naming the various types. The Thai cat is also a Siamese (traditional) but Thai cat breeders say their cat is not a Siamese!!

The cat fancy believes that the super-slender Siamese is a 'refinement' on the original and genuine appearance. The original Siamese cats from Thailand (formerly Siam) are much more like the cat you see on this page. I am please that Mariska adopted a traditional Siamese.

Seal Point Siamese with a bit of tabby cat

This is a Siamese cat in Italy; Tuscany in fact. A beautiful part of the world and this is a beautiful, clean standard looking Siamese cat. There is nothing extreme about this cat, which I think is what makes him or her all the more attractive.

What I would like to ask, however, is whether this cat is purebred and whether there is hint of tabby cat lurking inside. You can see the banding on the tail and on the sides of face and in fact on the forehead.

These indicate the presence of the genes that create the tabby cat and the lynx point Siamese cat. I don't know but I would doubt that this cat would do well at cat shows. That is not to criticise. It is more in praise. Perhaps this is normal for Siamese cats but you don't see banding in Siamese cat show cats as far as I am aware.

There is a nice patch of dark fur on the left thigh area. This would indicate that that area is cooler than the rest of the center part of the body. I wonder why.

Blue Point Male Siamese Cat

My roommate's cat by Lisa Brewster
Photo by Lisa Brewster on Flickr.
I am guessing from this cat's facial appearance and body conformation that he is a male cat. What do you think?

One thing I needn't guess about is the fact that he has very nice blue pointing. It shows the difference between seal and blue very nicely.

You can see that blue is a sort of faded black which it is (dilute black in fact).

He looks like a classic to traditional Siamese cat (i.e. in between classic and traditional - see Siamese cat types). He is not as cobby as an Applehead Siamese in my opinion (or at least his face is too elongated to be a true Applehead) but neither is the face so rat-like as to be a modern Siamese. Sorry if that sounds like I am insulting modern Siamese - I am!

Thanks to the photographer for letting us use the picture.
