The best advice on whether UFOs and aliens genuinely exist

Dr Brian Cox provides the best advice on whether UFOs and aliens have genuinely visited planet Earth. He says it in a tweet:

Essentially, in a nutshell, he's saying this: if you're going to make an extraordinary claim that a UFO and/or an alien is visiting planet Earth then you've got to provide extraordinary evidence. You can't just say you've seen them.
I keep being asked what I make of the UFO thing in Congress yesterday, so here it is: I watched a few clips and saw some people who seemed to believe stuff saying extraordinary things without presenting extraordinary evidence. Therefore I have nothing more to say, other than: It would be great if true - it would take a bit of the pressure off our civilisation if we weren’t the only means within the Milky Way by which the Universe understands itself. Sadly, as of today, I still feel that pressure, so can we perhaps focus on not messing our world up rather than hoping that, to paraphrase Sagan, someone will float down to save us from ourselves.

That isn't enough and there is an article in The Times today by a person who is very well qualified to say that UFOs have visited planet Earth and that aliens have been kept and examined by American authorities. His name is Luis Elizondo, a man it is said who has taken talk of unidentified phenomena from the fringe to the mainstream.

He led the top-secret Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program in America from 2019-2017. He says unequivocally that government officials and defence contractors have been retrieving unexplained "technology and biological objects" in the years since the crash in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947.

His unit was tasked with looking into UFOs which are now called "unidentified aerial phenomena". These phenomena harassed U.S. Navy warships and nuclear silos he writes in his memoir: "Imminent: Inside the Pentagon's Hunt for UFOs".

Roswell comes up a lot in his book. According to conspiracy theories the crash of a U.S. Air Force balloon on July 8, 1947 was caused by a spacecraft. He states that an electromagnetic pulse from America disrupted the spacecraft's propulsion bubble rendering them vulnerable. They lost all power in their engines/propulsion system and crashed. There were four deceased nonhuman bodies recovered after the crash.

He mentions at least three incidents where non-human parts were recovered from supposed UFO crashes. On one occasion the brain of an alien was studied and it had no convolutions i.e. wrinkles as in human brains which indicated that the creature had a lower intelligence than humans. The book also describes a conjoined gut and liver and a three-chambered heart like reptiles.

These are all his words in his book. He is the evidence. He's stating what he believes and what I presume he saw. But this is not extraordinary evidence in support of extraordinary claims.

His book does not meet the standard of evidence as stated by Dr. Brian Cox, a man of intelligence and a lot of common sense.

People want to believe that there's alien life out there among the stars. But there might not be. We could be the only intelligent life in the entire universe for all we know. And that is why Dr. Brian Cox makes another intelligent comment and it is this.

We should focus on preserving our planet and ourselves among all other things and objectives and focus less on conspiracy theories about alien life in UFOs visiting planet Earth without providing proper and incontrovertible evidence.

Humankind should focus on ‘not messing our world up’ - Brian Cox. At present we are not heeding that sound advice.

Obesity drug Ozempic linked to suicidal thoughts

Think twice before using Ozempic as a weight loss drug - 2 possible damaging side effects. Ozempic, which contains the active ingredient semaglutide, was originally developed for treating type 2 diabetes but has gained popularity as a weight loss drug. Studies have shown it can lead to significant weight loss in some people, leading to increased off-label use for weight management. However, it's important to note that it should only be used under medical supervision, as there can be side effects and it's not suitable for everyone. Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

Ozempic works by mimicking a hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), which helps regulate appetite and food intake. By activating GLP-1 receptors, it can increase feelings of fullness and reduce hunger, leading to lower calorie consumption and potential weight loss.

Potential dangers

But apparently there are dangers. There appears to be a general belief that Ozempic is some sort of wonder drug that suppresses your appetite leading to weight loss. This appeals tremendously to people who struggle (and I fully understand the difficulties) of controlling their eating. However, there are genuine issues because all drugs are essentially poisons. They are unnatural substances place inside the body where they can be beneficial but there are invariably some sort of side effects and it depends how extreme the side effects are.

The report today, in The Times, is that taking Ozempic "could be linked to a higher risk of having suicidal thoughts" according to a new study. The report states that there have been more than a hundred cases worldwide "where patients have reported feeling suicidal or wanting to self-harm as a side effect of the weight-loss injection, which is prescribed on the NHS to treat type II diabetes."

The drug is also known as Wegovy. Analysis of global data shows an association with "disproportionately increased reporting of suicidality" compared to other medicines. Although, overall cases remain rare. The suicidal thoughts ceased once the patients stopped taking the drug.

The study authors want a warning placed on Ozempic packaging. It is published in JAMA Network Open. It is a reviewed database of adverse drug effects held by the World Health Organisation.

Cause and effect is not proven but as mentioned there is an association between these two i.e. the drug and suicidal thoughts.

It may be the case that the suicidal thoughts could be an "uncommon but tragic consequence" of losing large amounts of weight. Comment: I would doubt that. There have been other drugs that have caused suicidal thoughts including one which treats acne in young people. If a drug is designed to alter the mentality of a person as this drug is, it would be unsurprising to me that it might have adverse effects as described.

The Times also reports that "a review by the European Medicines Agency this year found no link between obesity drugs and suicidal thoughts."

Late Queen Elizabeth II considered Donald Trump "very rude". Embarrassment for Trump.

On many occasions, Donald Trump has said that he admired the late Queen Elizabeth II. He considered her a great lady. I think at one time he said that she was the greatest lady on the planet or something as effusive as that. And Trump likes to have a connection with the UK. He likes Great Britain which is why he operates some golf courses in the country (charging £1000 for a round of golf). I think this goes back to his historical origins.

Queen Elizabeth II considered Donald Trump "very rude" but he admired her

But the point of this article is this: in the news today there is a report that the late Queen "found Trump very rude". Donald Trump will be reading this in mainstream press and it will upset him. And I'm pleased. I am anti-Trump. I am pro-Kamala. For the simple reason that the former is insensitive to animal welfare as far as I'm concerned whereas the latter is sensitive towards it. And I, personally, need someone in the White House who is sensitive towards animal welfare. This is my great mission.

We need someone in the White House who sensitive towards equality. Equality between men and women. Trump is a misogynistic alpha male with an  ego as big as the White House itself. I don't think he believes in equality. He doesn't believe in climate change. He doesn't believe in the sentience of animals it seems to me. His sons shoot animals for fun. It's all horrible.

That's why I am pleased The Times has reported that the late Queen found Donald Trump very rude. The information comes from a new biography of Queen Elizabeth which claims that she found Donald Trump to be very rude.

Great Britain's late sovereign hosted the former president twice during her longest of all British reigns. She is said to have "particularly disliked" the way that he looked over her shoulder as if "in search of others more interesting".

It would seem that Donald Trump was bored when he spoke to the late Queen. Perhaps this reflects his very short attention span. Or he was just plain rude towards her. And others?

The biography also suggests that she believed his relationship with his wife Melania must've been "some sort of arrangement". The Queen was a smart woman. She had lots of experience in government and in life generally and she is correct in this instance. It has to be an arrangement between Donald Trump and his wife. Trump praises his wife but it seems to me and perhaps the rest of the world that he doesn't treat her with the greatest of respect.

The claims are made by Craig Brown in a new book, A Voyage Around The Queen, which is being serialised in the Daily Mail.

He writes: "Over the course of her reign, Her Majesty entertained many controversial foreign leaders, including Bashar Al Assad (a murdering dictator from Syria) Robert Mugabe (the man who destroyed Zimbabwe through corrupt and rotten government) Idi Amin (we all know about him), Donald Trump, Emperor Hirohito and Vladimir Putin (and we all know about him being the modern Stalin and a mass murderer)." I have added my comments in brackets to the quote. 😎😃

The writer adds that:
"A few weeks after President Trump's visit, for instance, she confided in one lunch guest that she found him very rude: she particularly disliked the way he couldn't stop looking over her shoulder, as though in search of others more interesting. She also believed President Trump must have some sort of arrangement with his wife Melania, or else why would she have remained married?"
The author adds, "For his part, Donald Trump was confident he had been her favourite guest ever. 'There are those that say they have never seen the Queen have a better time, a more animated time'". He later told Fox News. His ego speaking again.

As mentioned, the claims will probably come as a big blow to Donald Trump both personally and in terms of his campaign to be the next president. He is seeking to win a second term in the White House. He first met the Queen in 2018.

There were protests in London about the meeting. A giant balloon portraying Trump as a baby was hoisted aloft. It was controversial but permission had been given.

The meeting took place over tea at Windsor Castle. No other senior Royals were present. It is said that Trump kept the 92-year-old monarch waiting for 10 minutes in 27°C heat and walked in front of her as they inspected the guard of honour. She was left trailing behind him. Disrespectful?

When the late Queen died on September 8, 2022, Donald Trump issued a statement saying that he and Melania would "always cherish our time together with the Queen, and never forget Her Majesty's generous friendship, great wisdom and wonderful sense of humour."

I'm pleased that Donald Trump is going to be embarrassed by this. His ego needs to be chipped away but that of course won't happen.

Houston animal shelter closes because of a lack of funds and wider issues

A Houston-area animal shelter called "Adopt-a-Cat has had to shut down after 30 years of operation because of a combination of unfortunate circumstances, the most important of which is that the Covid-19 pandemic changed the world and it appears to have changed the amount of disposable income people have and therefore can give to charity.

----------

I think this is due to the fact that after Covid there was high inflation which resulted in financial hardship and also countries had built up debt. Businesses were disrupted and lifestyles were also disrupted. People had to tighten their belts and therefore some charities lost out.

And sadly, this has happened to Adopt-a-Cat. The founder is Dr. Beverly Harper. She says it costs about $7000 to care for the cats and pay for the shelter's three employees per month I believe. It's an expensive business. But they've  been successfully operating since 1994 but they no longer have the money to keep going.

Dr. Harper said that the donations started to dry up during the Covid-19 pandemic and after the pandemic there are few people willing to donate which has been compounded by recent storms apparently in the area.

Dr. Harper said that "People don't have the money that they had [and] they're doing things like getting rid of the trees in their yard". I take that to mean the trees that have uprooted by the storms.

It became clear to Dr. Harper that she would have to close. She says that she is a realist and she knows that everything ends. The shelter has stopped taking in new cats and are hoping to adopt out the remaining cats at the shelter (80).

Sadly, some people still dump cats at the shelter in boxes outside despite being told that they are not taking in any new cats.

My research indicates that many animal shelters in the Houston area have been experiencing financial struggles. The factors contributing to this unfortunate situation include:

Increased demand: There are high intake rates animals due to overpopulation and abandonment according to my research. This might also be linked to the post-Covid situation causing financial stresses and other disruptions to normal lifestyles.

Limited resources: many shelters operate on tight budgets and rely on donations and volunteer support. It's quite troublesome to keep things going sometimes.

Rising costs: there have been increase costs as we know due to inflation and these include increase costs in veterinary care and pet food. And also maintenance expenses have increased making it harder for shelters to sustain operations.

Economic impact: there is a broader economic aspects to this as mentioned which can reduce donations from the public and impact fundraising efforts.

You'll need 2 documents to provide for your cat on your passing

If you live in the UK - and I would suggest most other Western countries - and you want to ensure that your cat companion is looked after on your passing, you should employ two documents namely a letter of wishes and your will.

You can't leave money to your cat in your will because cats are not considered to be sentient beings under British law. They are objects, inanimate objects, and therefore cannot receive money in your will.

But you can leave your pet cat and money to somebody you trust in your will after you've spoken to them about their "duties" when you've gone.

And when you've got their agreement you can provide guidelines about their caregiving of your cat in a letter of wishes, which accompanies the will in an envelope. Both should be drafted by a solicitor or some other qualified person to make sure that they are legal.

Note: this is a cross-post. See the other post by clicking here.

-------------

And it's important you don't leave too much money (whatever that actually is 😎) to the person who has been selected to look after your cat because it might be challenged by other beneficiaries. This might result in a court case and a judge possibly rewriting the will which you obviously want to avoid at all costs.

But the key point here is that there are two documents as mentioned in order to ensure that your cat is well cared for on your passing because of a weakness really in British law.

It's time for British law to change to recognise cat companions and dog companions as sentient beings because they are regarded as sentient beings and members of the family by their caregivers.
