184.9 million views and climbing: UK's most popular TikTok video features a white cat

This is the UK's most popular TikTok video and it is all about a cat 👌.

Most popular video in the UK shows agile kitten Mia, who has 2.6 million fans.  She is famed for navigating plastic cup obstacle courses in owner's viral clips. We have to give the humans a lot of credit too for dreaming up the idea for these unique videos and for showing the world how clever and nimble domestic cats are at navigating tricky obstacles with great precision. Their TikTok videos gather an awesome number of views. Even the less popular ones have over 100k views.

Thirsty cat adopts bizarre posture to drink from water basin - NO!

The title to this post is the title given to the video on YouTube but it is inaccurate. This is not a bizarre posture but a very clever and natural posture which allows the cat to stretch over to this large receptacle of water and drink from it.

I love the athleticism that this skinny little tabby stray cat demonstrates. It is another example on video of the extraordinary athleticism of the domestic and feral cat.

You probably know that domestic cats prefer to drink from what appears to us to be dirty puddles and polluted water but which in fact is pure from the cat's perspective than tap water. Tap water contains chemicals to keep it pure and to protect the health of people but domestic cats can smell this, they can smell the chlorine and fluoride that is in it and prefer rainwater although it might have collected some pollutants in the air as it falls to the ground.

They don't mind these perhaps because they can't smell them. I believe that cats pick up the unnatural smells of tap water which puts them off. They overcome it because they often drink tap water but sometimes they shun it for muddy puddles.

Note: This is a video from another website. Sometimes they are deleted at source which stops them working on this site. If that has happened, I apologise but I have no control over it. I actually expect this video to disappear within quite a short space of time because I do not think that the person uploading it is genuine. I have a suspicion that he or she is downloading the videos of other people and then uploading them to his YouTube channel. I could be wrong and if I am I apologise.

Bengal Cat Jumping

I can't resist showing you another photo by cat caretakers who really are in harmony with this breed of cat, judging by their photographs. The photographers are: by Nacho y Adriana on Flickr:

Bengal Cat Jumping showing of the athleticism of this cat breed.

The Bengal cat is particularly adept at jumping and running. My neighbor's Bengal cat, Daniel, an F3, runs very fast indeed. They seem to like high places more than other breeds and can get to them more easily!

The athleticism is one big factor that goes to make up this very popular breed of cat.

Bengal Cat Agility

Here is a really nice picture (another one!) of a beautiful purebred Bengal cat with gorgeous rosetted spots showing off his or her movement and agility. I think the shape is nice and the picture hints at a dynamic movement that is synonymous with the Bengal cat.

The interesting thing about the photo for me is this question: Is Zephyr poking around a water bowl? It looks like it and if so it would be entirely in keeping with this cat's character.

The wildcat ancestor of this cat is the Asian leopard cat and they spend a lot of time hunting prey in and near water courses where prey is more abundant. Makes sense.

By the way it is false to think that cats don't like water. Some cats don't but in general they are fine with it and many or most like it.

Bengal Cat Climbing

This is a nice photograph by Nacho y Adriana on Flickr of a Bengal cat climbing. He or she (looks female to me)  is doing what Bengal cats do best - being active and using their athleticism. You can see the climbing device, a modified step ladder it seems, is well used.

Brown rosetted (spotted) Bengal Cat Climbing

The picture is particularly good as it shows "Zephyr" in a good light. The coat is easy to see and the coat of the Bengal cat is very important. Bengal cats are tabby cats. They are spotted or classic (blotched) tabbies.
