Photograph of World’s Most Expensive Cat

Photograph of World’s Most Expensive Cat

This photograph is probably the same individual California Spangled cat that was advertised in the Neiman Marcus catalogue of 1986 when this cat breed was first brought to the market.

The photograph is from a calendar of 1989.  At today's prices this cat was being sold and bought for $38,105 (£22,692) or $24,000 in 1987.

Guinness World Records says that this is the world's most expensive cat.  However, the Ashera GD of Lifestyle Pets one-time soul for $127,000.  Also first filial Savannah cats of best quality sold by A1 Savannahs might sell at a price up to around $30,000 today.

I think we can see that it is very hard to say for sure that any individual cat is the world's most expensive that Guinness World Records made a decision and they came up with the 1986 California Spangled Cat.

If you are interested you can read about this cat breed on my website.  Perhaps the most interesting part is the history.  As far as I'm aware, it is the only cat breed that was sold at a department store via the store's catalogue.  In short, the cat was sold like any other item on display. The idea failed.

The link at the top of page provides more detail.
