My cat has Feline idiopathic cystitis and barely moves, how long will this sort of behavior last?

You should be able to cure this within a few to several days doing the following:

If the prescribed food is prescription diet dry food (vet recommended), stop it immediately. Provide high quality wet food only and give her for example boiled fish with some added water. Need to get water into her regularly and indefinitely.

Secondly, need to make the place less stressful for her. Incidentally female ginger tabbies are rare. If you are away all the time (understandable) it will cause stress - separation anxiety.

I am afraid you'll have to try and fix that problem (difficult). Idiopathic cystitis has 2 causes in my view: dry food + stress. Tackle both if you can. It'll work I feel pretty sure.

I see that you are tackling the stress element with a medication. Changing the environment is better and a permanent solution. Drugs aren't.

Vets tend to prescribe dry foods which are formulated to help cure cystitis but it is a misconceived policy as the cure is water to help flush the urinary tract system.

Dry foods cause mild dehydration which creates a good medium in which bacteria can develop in the bladder.

The above method should work within days.

Is she a full-time indoor cat left alone? If that is true, it is a sure-fire way to not solve the problem. Try some supervised outdoor activity. She needs to be active as well. Is she overweight? That won't help either. Sorry for being a bit tough. 😻😎

Adopting a kitty - is it required to get a kitten in pairs?

No, it's not required to adopt kittens in pairs, but it is often recommended. There are many benefits to having two kittens, such as:
  • Better social development: Kittens learn social skills from interacting with other kittens, which can help them be more well-adjusted cats in the long run.
  • Reduced boredom and destructive behaviour: Kittens have a lot of energy, and having a playmate can help them burn it off in a healthy way. This can help reduce boredom and destructive behaviour.
  • Companionship: Cats are social creatures, and even if you are home a lot, a kitten can benefit from having another feline friend.
However, there are also some things to consider before adopting two kittens:
  • Can you afford the cost of caring for two cats? This includes food, litter, vet care, and other supplies.
  • For life: remember adopting cats is for the life of the cats. And they anchor you; make it less easy to go away. With two cats you have a double responsibility.
  • Do you have the space for two cats? Cats need room to roam and explore.
  • Are you prepared for the extra work of caring for two cats? This includes cleaning litter boxes, playing with them, and grooming them.
  • Important: When siblings are kittens they get along fine. Great company and this friendship may last into adulthood but it may not. They grow to become independent-minded and one may see the other as a hostile invader of their home range. Living indoors the home range is small for each cat and there can be stresses. But it may work out. No certainties.
If you are not sure whether adopting two kittens is the right decision for you, talk to your local shelter or rescue organization. They can help you assess your situation and recommend the best course of action.

Jay Slater has been abducted and is not lost in Tenerife's badlands

They've been looking for Jay Slater for the past 13 days at the date of this post and no luck. A lot of people have been searching. I don't believe that he is there. I don't believe that he is lost in the badlands of Tenerife after an accident and is immobile down some rocky ravine because rationally I think there would have been some signs of him by now.

Update: the police have called off the search yesterday 30th June. They are following a different line of enquiry. I think they are thinking like me. But see below...

Further update:

"The force said the case remains open and that a “parallel” investigation is ongoing. But an investigating judge has been told that police have seen nothing yet that points to Mr Slater being the victim of a crime, it emerged on Monday." - The Telegraph.

Further update Monday, July 15 from The Times newspaper:

You may have heard that Jay Slater's mother has stated that the conspiracy theories have harmed the investigation. I hope my theory is not achieved that end. That would be upsetting to me. But I do not think it has. Slater has still not been found.

I stand by my theory that he was abducted and the latest news I think supports that. He went missing after he left the New Rave Generation music festival with two men on Sunday, June 16. Slater went from the festival to an Airbnb rented by two men in Masca, a mountain village 22 miles away.

He posted two pictures on social media from there the next morning. He is then believed to have set off on an 11-hour walk to his hotel.

So two men are involved in this investigation but the Spanish police have not said anything about them of note. I presume they've been interviewed. I would like to hear more on this. I think they abducted him but I could be wrong obviously. I am speculating. I am guessing. I admit that but there needs to be some thinking out of the box here because the search for him in Tenerife's Badlands was discontinued some time ago so what next?

Note that he went to this Airbnb where there were two men and he stayed there overnight it seems to me according to the reports. What went on during that night? That's the first question to answer.

Latest from TV: body found in remote place. Not sure how he died. Accident? I think there will be an autopsy to find cause of death but can we trust the Spanish police? Not sure at this stage that it is him. If it is RIP.

Once again I can provide a further update on August 5, 2024 from The Times newspaper. My thanks to this newspaper. The authorities in Tenerife, particularly the physician who carried out the post-mortem examination, have said that Slater who went missing in Tenerife died from traumatic head injuries. They have suggested that he fell from a height onto his head and that death would have been instantaneous. Personal viewpoint: I am sceptical. The head injury might have been caused by a blow to the head inflicted by a person with a weapon. That's just a suggestion and it's my opinion but they will never find out and this matter will now fizzle out. Unless somebody comes up with something years later which unravels this conclusion. Of course, Tenerife want it to go away. There's motivation for the authorities to say that Mr Slater fell off a ledge onto his head. It suits them.

I still believe that he was killed. This may come out one day.

Jay Slater and the search to find him. Image: Sky News.

My preferred scenario is that Jay Slater was abducted by nasty, abusive men who wanted to defile the young man and kill him.

Note this recent headline: "Jay Slater's last phone call 'cut off' by mystery caller as he arranged directions" - sounds strange. Who cut off the call? An abductor?

Note: if I am wrong - great. I'll be the first to admit my error and be delighted to do so.

I believe that he will not be found and that his body has been dumped or buried somewhere where he will never be found.

I am sorry if this short posts upsets his relatives and those that love him. I want those searching to start thinking out of the box. Look at alternative possibilities. That would seem sensible to me.

Something odd has happened and the immediate history before he disappeared my provide some indications that an alternative scenario is possible.

Mine is one suggestion and once again I am sorry if it seems unduly pessimistic. I am trying to be realistic not pessimistic.

I don't want to see the search fizzle out with no result and the investigation stopped. That would be disrespectful of Jay Slater.

Do some work on checking out the history of men on the island involved in abductions. Perhaps even paedophile rings. Look at police records. That sort of thing.

Perhaps the police don't want the truth to come out in order to protect the tourism industry upon which the Canary Islands rely. They'd rather that he was lost permanently. Dead end. No discussion. The fault of Jay Slater rather than the fault of a gang operating from the island. Just speculating.

Cats never try to save you. True or false?

Cats never try to save you. True or false? False.
Domestic cat protects toddler from the danger of falling from a balcony. Video screenshot. This is a remarkable video.

The assertion that cats never save humans is false, as numerous internet videos depict domestic cats saving infants from dogs or falls. These videos seem to show cats taking deliberate, protective actions towards humans, typically infants. This is a cat's mothering instincts emerging in the human-cat relationship.

The claim that cats never perform such acts usually stems from those who dislike cats and seek reasons to justify their disdain, arguing that unlike dogs, cats never come to the rescue. However, this is incorrect. There are many examples on YouTube that contradict this claim.

The use of 'never' by a cat detractor is easily refuted by a single counterexample as seen in the video below.

It is one of the most famous instances of a cat saving a child on video.

Interestingly, when queried about this topic, AI services like Google Gemini and Bing Copilot do not always reference these YouTube videos. Their responses can sometimes be evasive, which serves as a reminder that AI bots are not perfect sources of information.

The video above is almost as astonishing. It appears to show a cat instructing an infant to let go of the balcony railing, seemingly to protect the child from danger. It's rare to observe such clear protective behaviour from a cat.

The feline seems to have adopted a maternal role towards the toddler, exhibiting protective instincts. This suggests that the cat has recognized the balcony's height as a potential hazard. The cat's behaviour, which seems to anticipate the risk of a fall, is extraordinary.

It acted with remarkable insight and a positive intervention. In this case, attributing human-like awareness to the cat doesn't seem like anthropomorphism.

Here are some more:

In this video we can clearly see the family cat protecting the toddler from falling down the stairs:

Below is another story of a cat helping to save a dog this time:

And here we have a black cat jumping in at night to save a family dog from a coyote attack. The cat dived in courageously to drive away the coyote:

There are many other videos. These are examples.

It's quite clear what's happening. Humans often consider their cats as family members, and cats reciprocate by feeling they belong to the family.

They may see their owner as a substitute mother and behave and feel like kittens themselves. However, there are times when this role is transformed, and they assume the maternal role for a toddler, baby, or even another pet like a dog.

In this maternal role, they become protective of the toddler, which explains the numerous instances of domestic cats defending toddlers both inside and outside the home.

"My cat got a double dose of Benadryl. Will she be okay?"

Question in title asked on Quora. Here is the answer.

Benadryl, which is the brand name for the medication diphenhydramine, can be safe for cats in certain situations, but it is important to consult with your veterinarian before giving it to your cat. Benadryl can be helpful for allergic reactions, such as hives or swelling, and can also be used to help with motion sickness or anxiety.

However, it can also be toxic to cats if not given correctly. Cats can get diphenhydramine poisoning from ingesting too much Benadryl or from ingesting Benadryl that contains other ingredients, such as decongestants or pain relievers, which can be toxic to cats.

Here are some of the signs of diphenhydramine poisoning in cats:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Dilated pupils
  • Loss of coordination
  • Seizures
  • Coma

If you think your cat has ingested Benadryl or is experiencing any of the signs of diphenhydramine poisoning, it is important to take them to the veterinarian immediately.

Important: Never give your cat Benadryl without first consulting with your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will be able to advise you on whether Benadryl is right for your cat and, if so, the correct dosage.

Is there a limit to the number of posts allowed by Google Blogger?

I can say with some confidence that there would strongly appear to be no upper limit to the  number of articles (posts) allowed by Google Blogspot (Google Blogger) and I make this judgement after recently visiting a Google blogspot website, hosted by Google, called Althouse which has, on my estimation, around 74,000 posts. Astonishing as it is authored by a single person: Amy Althouse. Link to her site: Althouse

She writes about 15 posts a day. But she achieves this by not creating original photographs or images for the posts but by embedding Flickr images which I presume she is taken and by copying i.e. cutting and pasting, the texts from other websites both in the title which is very long and the body of the text which is a continuation of the title sometimes.

It's all conducted at very high speed I suspect and she may complete one post in about five minutes. She would have to do it quickly otherwise she would take about 14 hours a day to write a day's worth of posts which would absorb pretty well all her waking hours and I can't see the point of that.

But she has been writing for her website at this consistent high speed since 2004 which is remarkable. It must place quite a mental burden on her to wake up in the morning knowing that she has to write 50 articles or more despite the fact that they are super high speed and copying and pasting mostly it seems to me.

She appears to have decided that quantity is superior to quality which may in fact be true. I don't know how well her site ranks in respect of other websites or Google blogspot websites. There is no method to cross check that nowadays.

She maintains a very simple theme which is the basic original theme of Google blogspot so there is no attempt to prettify the website. I like that too. It's very practical. Very functional. No frills.

Just words churned out at high speed. She write about pretty well on any topic which takes her fancy. She receives about 50 comments or more per article which is fantastic. She must have quite a big following. But then she's been around for a long time and has written 74,000 articles!!

It is listed as one of the best Google blogspot websites but I'm not sure whether that's correct or not. All I can say is that I'm impressed by her productivity and commitment.

I think this website (Cat Chit Chat) actually also deserves a mention because although I only write one or two articles per day for this website it has achieved almost 12 million hits over its lifespan and every page contains an original image of some sort.

For speed, I dictate using Dragon Dictate these days. I have never indulged in cutting and pasting text from other articles. I thought that was bad SEO policy. It appears that Google accepts it. I might try it.

In line with Ann Althouse, I have deliberately not added a photograph or image of any sort to this page!

Here is the answer from Google's Gemini. God bless it. Gemini is the destroyer of websites!

No, there's no limit to the number of posts you can create on Google Blogger. This is great news for bloggers who want to create a substantial archive of content!

Here's a quick rundown of Blogger's post limits:

  • Number of Posts: Unlimited
  • Post Length: Unlimited (although very large posts might affect homepage display due to another limit)

However, there are a few other limitations to keep in mind:

  • Image Size: Individual images can be up to 1GB, but they need to be under 2048px in width or height for unlimited storage within Blogger itself (larger images eat into your Google Drive storage).
  • Homepage Display: The number of posts displayed on your homepage and archive pages depends on a setting you control and the total file size of those posts. Blogger tries to show the number you set, but there's a limit of roughly 1MB for the total size of posts displayed on a single page.
