Cat cuts off power for thousands of Florida residents

I'll keep this short. The title is the same as that used by the Herald Sun. It implies that the cat is at fault. Apparently a cat crawled into an electrical substation and caused a short circuit by touching cables etc.

The cat was killed, of course. Apparently it is common for animals such as cats and squirrels to end up like this and cause disruption to people living in the area serviced by the substation.

This is the fault of the electricity supply company. If it happens regularly why on earth don't they build in some protective measures to stop cats entering the area. This would save the animals and stop the disruption.

My guess is that the animals are attracted by the warmth generated by substations.
